This really was Touka and Kaneki’s volume. It took a while to get here, but they are finally together! Their scenes in this volume were just so beautiful with some very detailed panels and emotional and lighthearted moments. She’s pregnant and they are married?!? Things really went from 0 to 100 real quick!

Touka is just such a strong character to me, and I think a lot of people unfairly dismiss her for wanting to live an ordinary life. Touka has always wanted a ”human” life, and instead of being driven by revenge or anger, she fights for achieving that life because she has realized that the pursuit for revenge is fruitless.

Kaneki is having a rough time at the moment with the pressure of the ghoul world on his shoulders, the shortage of “food” and life underground is becoming increasingly difficult. And he’s also aging at a rapid pace because he has overused his kagune, and the only way to stop it is to quit using his kagune so much or to cannibalize on other ghouls. Now that he has chosen to fight for the ghouls, i imagine the second option will be difficult for him. I do think that he has begun to embrace his right of living a good life, and won’t rush to make sacrifices because he has found meaning in his life and people to live for. I hope he will let himself lean on the people close to him more.

On another topic, Mutsuki has totally gone off the rails. He loves Haise, but he also wants to kill him for abandoning them, but most of all he wants him to come back. Taking into account his history of abusive relationships with men in the past, I can see where his anger and pain comes from when Haise, one of the only men who have shown him compassion and kindness, left him. But Haise was never meant to stay with them, because “Haise” is really Kaneki.

Furuta has wrapped (almost) everyone around his finger, and he keeps using manipulation and the investigators loved ones against them .

Some highlights from the volume:
— Drunk Renji at Touka and Kaneki’s wedding
—  Urie’s reaction to Mutsuki telling him he loved Haise (Urie literally wants Mutsuki so BAD)
— THE BITEMARK?
— Touka forcing herself to eat human food for the sake of her child
