Homecoming by Kate Morton

5.0

Homecoming by Kate Morton was my most anticipated new release for 2023. It not only lived up to my expectations – it well & truly surpassed them! Kate has masterfully created an intricate world that will stay with me & in my humble opinion, is Kate’s best book yet.

I have so much I want to say about this one please swipe to see the back cover summary.

This truly is a captivating book within a book that took me away to another place with vivid descriptions of landscape (anyone who has been to the Adelaide Hills, will clearly recognize the beautiful countryside). The large cast of characters each had their own fascinating stories and were so well written I felt I knew each intimately.

With so many aspects to the tale, it would be easy for it to get confusing or overwhelming, but I think that is the real beauty in what Kate has done here with masterfully weaving this detailed and ambitious storyline into something that feels like a real life event.

At a whopping 631 pages, I took my time with this one as I so enjoyed being immersed in the story and allowed myself to get swept away in the beautiful use of words and place. The themes of intergenerational trauma, what home really means and storytelling - about ourselves, our family history and events that have shaped us - really shone for me.

& the final few chapters – wow! I did not see how this was going to be wrapped up and did not guess any of the final secrets until they revealed themselves. There honestly could not have been a more perfect ending for me!

I won’t gush too much more except to say I absolutely adored this book and highly recommend immersing yourself in it. It’s been 5 years since Kate’s last book but I will happy wait another 5 to read such magical storytelling.
