As You Like It by William Shakespeare
5.0
What a wonderful story this is. I read it on a hot sunny day under the shade of an apple tree and must say that I concluded that this play was As I Like It. It is light hearted, easy to read, jolly, delightfully improbable and rather wonderful. It made me smile and chuckle.
So I will just say again that the story is bonkers and improbable but it was so joyous. Don’t we all need unlikely happiness sometimes.
Then I watched the film with Kenneth Branagh directing. The film didn’t get rave reviews but I thought it was beautifully done and happy making.
As You Like It isn’t my favourite Shakespeare but it is still pretty brilliant and enjoyable. I loved the characters in this play. Shakespeare does strong women a lot better than many writers, especially writers from the past. Rosalind is very good in this. I had to laugh that on stage in Shakespeares time it would have been a man playing a woman who plays a woman playing a man but is really a woman but in reality is a man.. get it???
