This book was so endearing. I almost cried at the end! Let me tell you what this book has going for it: A plucky female protagonist. Deaf characters that are fully realized. A spunky grandmother. Whales. Music. Adventure. Self realization. Problem solving. Life lessons. Friendship. And I could go on and on. If you like middle grade books or reading about elderly or hearing impaired characters, you should pick this one up.
