To Cage a God by Elizabeth May

Absolutely breathtaking in the visuals. For people unfamiliar with Russian culture some of the names and the places, some of the words and cultural influences might take a bit of thought and extra care, but wow is it worth it to put that effort into it.

The dynamics between the characters are specifically what made me love this story so much. The action starts quickly and from the first page I loved the bond between Sera and Galina, I believed they cared for each other and I believed every character and the choices they made thereafter. Every character in "To Cage a God" feels like they have their own motivations and purposes which heavily impacts the steaks. So with that, a (sometimes far-fetched but ultimately beautifully feral) magic system and dragons? This book was always going to be a high hitter for me.

I definitely think the magic systems and world could use a bit more fleshing out, and some of the lines can be somewhat repetitive, but both of these never became such an issue during my read-through that I lost interest. Amazing book, praying the next in the series comes out soon!
