Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City by K.J. Parker
3.0
So, yeah, it's a good book, but it's one of those that you'll either really love or not.
The main character is snarky, talks a mile a minute (although I get why it feels that way having made it all the way to the end) but then again, why all the bloody digressing...
I don't know how to explain. There's just way too much side info, smack in the middle of dialogue, we digress. It's like watching Bold and the Beautiful and you can skip 2 weeks of shows because they go on and on about the same thing for yonks, and you will have not missed out on anything, even if you skip a couple of pages here and there.
The sass and humourous tone - not to everyone's liking, but those who like it, love it.
Some good quotes in the book, though:
*A wise man once said, it's not the despair that destroys you, it's the hope.
*I mention this because that's how the world changes. It's either so quick that we never know what hit us, or so gradual that we don't notice.
*Some people have a talent for treachery. I'm not one of them, which surprises me, given how dishonest I fundamentally am. // Let's not beat about the bush: I'm as crooked as a mountain path.
