The Joy of Falling by Lindsay Harrel

5.0

I loved this author’s other books so much that I pre-ordered the audiobook for this title. I can’t say enough about it.

It’s not just a story of dealing with grief. It’s about so much more. The character’s strengths and weaknesses are relatable and real. You feel as though you’re growing and changing with them. They feel like friends that you want to go and have coffee (or hot chocolate) with.

My two favourite areas of the book come in chapter 17 and chapter 34. Chapter 17 talks about aiming for joy instead of happiness. Chapter 34 shares the joy of falling and trusting God to catch us and carry us.

On a side note:
Listening to this book during the Coronavirus pandemic made me think about how we are all trying to deal with this abrupt change in life. We are all learning to process and adapt. We can either bleed and go through this “ultramarathon,” or we can let it beat us down and quit. It makes me think of the verses in The New Testament about life being likened to running a race. This book was a journey and had so many life lessons.
