Last night I finished Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Saénz, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The story picks up RIGHT where the last one left off. I was worried it was going to feel unnecessary or trivial. The first Ari and Dante is so good, do we need to add more?

The answer is yes. This novel completes the story.

I’ll try to keep it as spoiler free as possible, but Ari really grows into himself in this book. And if I had any complaints about the first one it was the lack of female representation. I always say you can judge how good an mlm book is by how it treats its female characters, and this book absolutely does not disappoint.

For the first time in his life, Ari opens himself up to friends, to relationships. And most of his friends are girls. Cassandra was my favorite character by far but Susie really showed her mettle.

I think, for a YA series, this is where it has to end. Any more from them would have to be an adult book, and I kind of want it, to be honest. The book ends with them growing up. But there’s still so many questions, about who they are, where they’re going, and things like the AIDS pandemic.

Overall this was a 5 star read for me and a prime example of just what YA can be.
