The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

5.0

“We were the people who were not in the papers. We lived in the blank white spaces at the edges of print. It gave us more freedom. We lived in the gaps between the stories.”

The show ran away with itself but at least the first season did this novel justice. Coincidentally reading this after [b:1984|61439040|1984|George Orwell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1657781256l/61439040._SX50_.jpg|153313] and so many great comparisons to be made.
