The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

4.0

I can't keep count of the number of times I've started but put down this book. The narrator Monique was lack lustre and something about the whole thing annoyed me. Yet I was adamant on reading this. This time, I've made it through to the end and needless to say, I really enjoyed it.

Monique quickly grew on me, she's your average girl that is determined to follow her passion. She needs a gentle nudge here and there to be reminded of the great things she's capable of. But the star of this book is of course Evelyn Hugo. She's. Lived. A. Life. I tried to keep track of the events but I gave up. So much goes on, she does so many things, a lot of them ugly yet I can't blame her for doing said things. She's normal, she's human and does what she needs to do.

What I love about her is that she's grey, as is everyone. She's not painted the angel or the devil. She's both at different times. She's a go getter, something I aspire to take away. She's been through a lot so she's a realist but that doesn't stop her from living her life on her terms. She's pushed down by life, yet she comes back strong, multiple times. She's done some crazy things but she's not a tiny bit apologetic. Now that's an interesting person isn't it?

I'm glad I gave this a shot. I enjoyed watching the story unfold. Enjoyed seeing the past line up with the present. Understood the times and how elements taken for granted today were not even allowed back then. Worth all the time and effort!
