i typically enjoy books about human connection, with a lack of plot and plenty of social commentary threaded without. but the key to this genre is a strong personal connection to the characters,, and this book did not achieve this for me in a way that sally rooney (for example) has always.

i did not feel for any of the characters; hate them or love them. and i NEED that in my books so that is why it is 2 stars but probably 2.5.
