A simple story on the surface-- a seemingly naive young cat, Cilla, quests to find the quiet garden from the kitten stories in hopes of finding a stable home, and ropes her friend Betto into the search-- the delicious part is how this tale reflects on the nature of stories in general, using the backdrop of Malta and an eye-popping array of famous artwork to do so. I loved it; it's the kind of book I'd hand to any kid who thinks about the workings of stories and what they can mean to people.
