A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green
5.0
One of the reasons I love reviewing for Bethany House is because they have a wonderful selection of historical fiction! A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green is a historical fiction that begins during The Reign of Terror in Revolutionary France. King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette have been executed, however, no one is safe. Vivienne Rivard was a lacemaker for the Queen, which in revolutionary France is a death sentence. Anyone associated with the aristocracy is arrested and sent to the guillotine. She manages to escape to America. She is not the only one. She meets one the ladies-in-waiting to Marie Antoinette and her son Henri Chastain. Unfortunately, her friend dies from a disease, leaving Henri is Vivienne’s care.
Henri is no ordinary boy since he was raised in Versailles. Revolutionary sympathizers and royalists both suspect that Henri is Louis-Charles Capet, the son of Marie Antoinette. Vivienne and Henri escape Philadelphia to a place called Asylum with the help of a man named Liam Delaney. He fought in the American Revolution and holds a great value on liberty. However, he fears for his government. The Whiskey Rebellion is in full force and it threatens to tear this new nation apart. Vivienne and Liam come together and fight for their lives and their own liberty.
