A summer full of expectations of relaxation, fun, and worry free was all that Taylor imagined for her and her brother, Jude to have, but unfortunately they stumbled upon some… unfortunate soul, that being a dead man in their rented vacation house. Suddenly, Taylor found herself in the middle of a murder investigation, and thought she could put her true crime podcast skills to the test, and alongside bounty Hunter, Myles. Together Taylor and Myles became the unlikely duo working the case and ironically enough worked well together. Mystery, murder, humor, a grumpy bounty hunter, a sweet second grade teacher, and romance along the way couldn’t sound any more fun to me!
Even before reading this book, I was immediately intrigued by the plot and was curious to see how the story would unfold. Taylor was definitely the type of character we all can relate to especially with her enthusiasm and belief that she could solve the case. I think it’s safe to say, we’ve all watched our fair share of true crime documentaries, murder mystery shows, CSI, etc. and believed we could easily spot the clues that others might have missed. Taylor was that person indeed that we all wished to and could relate to her on different levels. Myles, on the other hand, was the grumpy, possessive bounty hunter, who has determined to solve the case, and tried to stay away from Taylor and her beauty and cheerful personality. If there’s one thing I love about grumpy characters (among other reasons) is seeing how they become absolutely softies for the sunshine such as, Myles towards Taylor. Myles was immediately attracted to Taylor, but realized very fast that being around her made him feel things he hadn’t felt before, and couldn’t get her out of his mind. Even from Myles picking up on certain changes from Taylor, he would adjust his tone or behavior in order to make Taylor feel better. For a man who seemed serious and to himself, he ended up caring about Taylor’s wellbeing and more.
This was a short, sweet, spicy, romance book filled with Tessa Bailey’s humor throughout the story. If you’re looking for a quick read or another book by Tessa Bailey to read, go ahead and check this book out! Once again, with Tessa’s signature humor and lovable characters, you’ll fall in love with everything this book has to offer. While this may be a short book, don’t worry because the romance and spice is excellent! Myles and Taylor’s chemistry was great, and come on, grumpy/ sunshine romance’s are some of my all time favorites! Myles was definitely a possessive man and he made sure to not only comfort Taylor, but also made sure she enjoyed herself to the fullest *wink, wink. Taylor also took Myles by surprise by showing a side of herself that Myles didn’t expect, and was left happily surprised by Taylor’s actions and words. *Hint, if you’ve read carefully, you’ll have caught onto what I was implying haha.
For all the romance and of course the murder mystery that Myles and Taylor were trying to solve, Myles also dealt with his fear of getting close to Taylor, and potentially putting her in harms ways. For all the strength and confidence that Myles seemed to portray in himself, he also had a fear of Taylor getting in harms way through their investigation. Poor Myles, he truly did have his own inner demons he was still dealing with, and through his chapters it was evident he didn’t want to repeat past mistakes from his life. Myles was hard on himself, but Taylor wanted to help him not only by lightening the load of the case, but to also help him work through his inner problems.
Overall, this was a great, fun story. Taylor and Myles were great and them solving the case together was both amusing and enjoyable. The way the mystery of the case ended up going was pretty good and I wasn’t expecting the level of danger that occurred throughout the story. Taylor was an absolute sweetheart and I adored her personality. Myles was secretly a softie who would do anything for Taylor. The romance and spice was amazing, and of course the epilogue was not only romantic and sweet, but it seemed fitting for Taylor and Myles’s relationship the way their story ended. The perfect summer read, quick to read, and Tessa Bailey once again delivered a feel good story.
