Patricia Wants to Cuddle by Samantha Allen

3.0

“What’s wrong with this place? How can somewhere so beautiful be so ugly, too? And why do I keep staying up here longer and longer, even when I don’t want to?”

Phew, talk about a mixed bag. Phenomenal concept, so-so delivery. “Bachelor”-esque contestants abscond to a sequestered island during filming and (not so) quickly run into some trouble of the Bigfoot variety. On our first, and hopefully not last, joint Book Club/review adventure, @blob_ross and I have similar woes about “Patricia Wants to Cuddle” or, my personal working title for it, “Sasquatch with Tits!”

Beau’s Review: The build up, however accessible and easy to read, dragged on and on. If the characters were more likable, the slow pacing would have been more manageable. Quite obviously we aren’t supposed to like several of the characters, but even the ones that we’re supposed to sympathize with seemed flat. Several storylines hid under the main plot and, if fleshed out more, would have made this an entirely more favorable book. The titular character only having about 10% playtime was disappointing but boy when she popped up, she really did it to it.

Ren’s Review: “Patricia Wants to Cuddle” was fine. Horror is not normally my go to but this book felt like an easy toe in to the genre. I needed the story to be weirder than it was, and hated that so much emphasis was put on Patrica as a “lady ape” with big ol titties. Can she be interesting for literally any other reason? I wanted to love this book but the slow, drawn out plot and wafts of TERF really soured this one for me.

3/5 If I met a Bigfoot I would just be nice.
