ARC Review: The Summer I Saved You

A sensational, gorgeous love story that brings forth all the delicious angst and all the swoon-worthy romance.

The Leads

Lucie is everything to me. Without question my favorite character, my favorite POV, my favorite story within this book. She’s so resilient, so loving, so hopeful. Her heart is enormous and filled with all the love for her two kids. She's a fierce mama bear looking out for her kids while daydreaming of the boy next door who grew up to be a formidable man. Her heart is wounded but still beating and I love how she allowed it to stay open after all she went through. I loved everything about her character arc.

Well...almost everything. Whilst Lucie’s arc is the one I held dearest my single nitpick in this book is related to her story, and that is feeling a bit let down by the resolution with her ex, especially given his treatment towards their children, especially their son, and the abusive text messages he bombarded Lucie with daily. Nevertheless, it’s a super minor nitpick that doesn’t deter the endless love I developed for this book.

Then there’s Caleb. Caleb is a very flawed human being, who recognizes his own flaws yet at times continues to let them dictate his life rather than correct them. He can be very self-destructive to his own happiness due to his past grave mistakes. But he’s a good man. Above all the missteps he’s made in life, he is a good man. And his presence in Lucie and her kids’ lives only serves to better them…assuming he isn’t bent on that self-destructive path.

The Romance

Gosh, once you meet these two all you’ll want is to see them come together (in more way than one! I’m sorry, I already regret that pun
