“He hadn’t known it was possible to embrace lightning until he’d held her, and the experience had left him exhilarated.”
Can I get a round of applause for actually finishing a book after this ferocious reading slump I’ve been in… for what feels like the longest time?!
And not only did I actually finish a book but I absolutely enjoyed every minute of it too. 🥹🩷 Combine fantasy with a Beauty and the Beast retelling and what do you get? This little gem. <3
It’s not the type of retelling where everything follows the exact original sequence of events. This one had its own lore, twists and turns, unique takes on the original, such a unique group of characters — and everyone was interesting in their own way!
A curse that affects not just one but two people — and it’s not as easy to get rid of. A little kiss won’t save this bunch of characters, everyone. So our heroine(s) will have to try way harder to find a way.🫣 Oh, the roses were a little nastier in this one too.
I loved Louvaen and I loved Ballard. They made so much sense and they were wonderful and ideal for one another. It’s so refreshing reading about adult characters making adult decisions; characters who actually communicate so well and respect each other. 😌🤍 I was borderline losing my sanity with the slow burning, every time they would as much as hold hands, I was giggling and was ready to start applauding. But when the slow burn indeed burned…oh boy 🤭 stellar material.
“He wanted more of this—the exhilaration of truly living instead of only counting time. The sharp-tongued sister who’d invaded his home, made her demands and challenged his authority as dominus sent the blood singing through his veins.”
I know some people have said that the beginning was a bit slow and I would agree. Although, I’m not sure to what extent my reading slump is to blame for my own experience :’). It’s so worth it though, definitely push through! ⛅️
I’m so ready to explore more of Grace Draven’s books 🩷.
