American Predator: The Hunt for the Most Meticulous Serial Killer of the 21st Century by Maureen Callahan
5.0
This is one of the best true crimes book I have read!
American Predator tells the story of Israel Keys starting with the crime that was his downfall, the case of Samantha Koenig, and eventually led to his capture and then looking back over his life.
Israel Keys kidnapped and murdered Samantha Koenig in Anchorage Alaska, his hometown. Something he later told investigators he said he’d never do.,,kill in his own back yard. Samantha’s kidnapping is caught in CCTV at the coffee kiosk she was working at when kidnapped . The story takes us through how investigators caught him and hours and hours of interviews with Keys afterwards learning of his childhood, time in military and the discovery that Israel is a serial killer, a unique serial as
he didn’t have a victim Type, had no fixed location for hunting, killing, and burying; he put thousands of miles between himself and his victims; he buried kill kits all over the US. He avoided detection through travel. He killed his victims in one state, dumped them in another.
This book made me sob. The particular emotional account of the FBI dive team lead that led to the recovery of Samantha’s body was eye opening and gave me a whole new appreciation of what those five teams do and the emotional toll it takes on them.
Israel killed him self before he gave names and locations of all his victims. There are families out there that will never know the fate of their lives ones
