the story beats are basically just lifted entirely from legends and lattes (which I was willing to overlook in my search for the same feeling L&L gave me), I absolutely hated the writing style of this (poundshop terry pratchett with way too much fourth wall breaking and not nearly as clever) and I found the ways that some of the side characters were described really gave me the ick (maribella's attitude set my ableism alarm bells off in a way I couldn't quite put a finger on) but tried to battle through anyway, until I saw another review from a jewish reader pointing out the anti-semitic way that the goblins are described and treated and I just couldn't stomach it anymore... save yourself the trouble and just wait for bookshops and bonedust to come out
