4.5 stars for an alluring, captivating read about a city girl who saw too much, and southern Texas boy who ends up being her knight and shining armor.
This was such a great, intense read for me. This book is about Emily Foster. It's her 24th birthday and she just wants to go to the club with her friends, have some drinks and maybe, just maybe pick up a nice hottie at the club. After trying to ditch a guy who can't understand the word no, she runs into a man that makes her mind spin. Jake kisses Emily in the club to run off her stalker and make him think she's here with someone. But after that kiss, a girl needs more. Emily goes to look for Jake but accidently ends up in the wrong room and see's a mafia meeting gone wrong. Emily ends up getting away and must be put in witness protection because she is a witness of a murder. Then she finds out, hot guy Jake from the club? Undercover FBI agent. Things get worse before they get better, but before you know it she's in Texas trying to hide out for her life. Things get hotter between her and Jake and they both are so stubborn and crazy they can't seem to shake one another.
I loved the obvious sexual tension and chemistry between the two characters. Being from the south, I enjoyed reading some of the ridiculous slogans we say down here, and the cute, southern charms we have. It made me smile to see how much the author embraced her southern roots. I enjoyed the whole on the run thing, because it was thrilling and always made you sit up and think OMG they are gonna die. The reason for 4 starts instead of 5 is because of two things.
For starters, it bugged the piss out of me we never knew Emily's real name. If I am not mistaken her real name was not ever once mentioned in the book, even by her friends in the club. They never called her name! Unless I over read it but I am 99% positive I didn't. That just really bothered me. I understand she had to get a new identity, but we didnt get much to know about the old her, other than the truth behind her parents and all that.
The second reason for not 5 stars, is because while I loved the funny and cute bickering, there were times where I was like seriously? They are arguing over this??? I feel like there were one or two many scenes of arguments where they should have just been kissing or having sex. Or just not arguing. I do realize the point of the arguing was to show how stubborn each other really were and to lead up to the big moment, but after a while I was like can we just stop already? Wasn't a huge issue for me, just wish it had been cut down some.
One thing I really enjoyed about the book was the side characters. Floss and Cowboy were easily my favorite side characters in the book. Floss was so headstrong and a tough damn lady. Cowboy made me laugh so much and he was such a great guy. I would love to see a book for Cowboy!
Overall this is a wonderful, intriguing, sexy read. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance with something else to go with it.
