The Unseen Ones by Danielle Harrington
4.0
Picking up right where The Diseased Ones left off, The Unseen Ones deals with the fallout of the conflict and choices made in the first novel. The story is told with the most honest character interactions and pacing, as the main character continues her journey of growth, atonement, and self-acceptance.
While I missed a lot of the fun dynamics and interactions from the first book, I loved watching the different characters evolve, both in their powers and identities, and also in their relationships with each other. The climactic sequence of the novel was also fantastic - the stakes were high, and it kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting know what happens next (and desperately hoping everything was going to be alright).
All in all, this book was a roller coaster of emotions and nicely ties the series together, delving deeper into the characters and the dystopian setting that was brilliantly established in the first book, while also teasing a major upheaval that is to come in the next one.
Still so grateful to the author for bringing me along for the ride and providing the ebook as part of my ARC journey for The Empowered Ones.
