Okay!! I’ve had to sleep on this one because there was so much going on and I had to sort out my feelings. I love looking up author interviews which I’m feeling like this because they often help me process my thoughts better.
This was incredibly twisty, twists inside of twists, a novel inside of a novel with the backdrop of the Mojave Desert. This book is actually based off of MK Ultra, CIA experiments conducted in the 60’s and 70’s. The experiments touched on here involve dogs so if that’s triggering for you skip this one.
Catriona said in an interview, “a lot of the book and characterizations are like a Rorschach test in itself, who and what you’ve been led to believe is good or bad will determine what you think of the book and the people in it.” There is no one understanding of this.
I’ll admit I was confused at the end but knowing that it’s open-ended really helped. Last House on Needless Street is still my favorite but this one is really good.
