The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

5.0

TW: Sexism, female stereotypes, misogyny, miscarriage, infertility. I am beyond obsessed with this book and I didn't want it to end. Everything about this book is incredible and it is now one of my favourite ever fantasy reads. It focuses on a world divided, a queendom without an heir and an ancient enemy waiting to awaken. The fantasy world building and plot is simply out of this world and the characters are so well written they jump from the page. The chapters switch pov's between different areas of the fantasy world and storylines which are all intertwined so effortlessly and lead to an incredible climax. My favourite part is how Samantha Shannon has beautifully presented an array of faiths, traditions and beliefs to build such a gripping and page turning world within this book. Also, the representation and diversity of the characters is just impeccably done, especially the LGBTQ+, mental health and saphic romance rep (it does have some *spicy* scenes
