Once again, the story continues but this time it was Anna and Quan’s story. Another great book following , “The Kiss Quotient” and “The Bride Test”.
Anna was the epitome of being a “people pleaser”, she always thought of what would make others happy, even if she didn’t want to do something, If it made the other person happy, she did it anyways. For example, Anna doing certain things for her boyfriend Julian, and agreeing to do the open relationship. Anna didn’t like the idea of an open relationship, but she did it for the sake of her relationship with Julian and partly wanting to prove him wrong in that she could also meet other men. There was more to Anna especially in regards to wanting to please everyone, it was something that was deep in her subconscious that greatly affected her way of life whether she wanted to admit it or not.
The way the story was spread out was interesting both in terms of the timeline and of course the plot. By the middle of the book, I was interested seeing how Anna interacted with her family and it was surprising to read how different she acted around her family, being someone who she hoped her family would approve of. My heart felt for Anna because, she had to deal with a lot of personal problems varying from her own self and her family. Luckily Quan being the absolute MVP was there for Anna every step of the way, and if you don’t agree as him being a fantastic boyfriend then get out. Jokes aside though, I loved how Quan was attentive, helpful, and mindful especially with Anna. In addition, Quan was so patient and understanding with Anna that it was refreshing to see because, Anna was always use to doing whatever Julian or what everyone else wanted, never asking what Anna wanted. With Quan, he prioritized Anna’s feelings, wants, needs, concerns.
If there’s one thing I love in a male character is him being attentive. Quan took into consideration things that Anna didn’t like, and wanted to make sure she felt comfortable at all times. In a way, I felt that while reading it reminded me a bit of Michael and Stella (from “The Kiss Quotient”). There were some similarities between Quan and Michael, aside from them being family, they both shared the same mindset and even in their own romantic endeavors, each man made their woman’s feelings the priority.
This story was simply beautiful. The story tugged on my heartstrings, made me smile, had me rooting for Quan and Anna, and overall Helen Hoang stealing my heart once again with her books. This book was fantastic and aside from the romance, it also highlighted some serious topics that were both eye opening and sad. Overall I would highly recommend this story and basically all of Helen Hoang’s books.
