We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson

3.0

What a bizarre book, but strangely intriguing.

I was instantly drawn into the stories and characters. The mystery around the murder was fairly obvious, but that didn't detract at all from the story. The sense of unease was strong throughout. My favorite part was the dialogue, especially between the two sisters--you had to infer their meaning between the lines.

I was disappointed with how the uncle's belief that she was dead was wrapped up and the ending wasn't my favorite (it seemed to drag on and was a little anticlimactic for me). If I were only rating the first half, I'd probably do 4 or 5 stars.
