Medusa and the Devil by Simon Marlowe

5.0

Fantastic. Truly fantastic. It was brilliant being back with Mason, and seeing what ‘adventure’ he’d be going on this time.

At the start, I have to admit, I was confused. I mean, we know any job from Grandad isn’t going to be as straightforward as it sounds but a rare artefact and a family, huh?
But as it unfolds it starts making sense and you realise there’s so much more at play than just tracking down Schmidt & the artefact.

My favourite aspects are the writing style, the pacing and the humour throughout but the best has to be the characters Steven & Tony. I especially loved the banter between them. Just brilliant.

This can be read as a standalone but you’ll get the references if you read book 1 (The Dead Hand of Dominique) first and it’s a proper introduction to Steven and his life.

One final thing, this book played with my emotions. Never did I think I was going to get teary eyed. Laugh, be shocked, a little scared and on edge but NEVER have tears in my eyes. Damn you, Simon! lol

I’m now nervous to read book 3, The Heart is a Cruel Hunter (out TODAY!) because, 1, I’m scared what’s going to happen and 2, it’s the last in the series and I’ve loved being in Steven Mason’s insane world!
