Water Moon is a beautiful dreamy and creative piece of writing, the content in segments is genuinely imaginative and easy to consume, it has a lot of thought put into the chaotic world we end up exploring. Not to mention the ending, I adored the twists and turns, the last maybe 20% of the book really picked up for me and came to a few interesting character twists.
That being said, the pacing of the story can be somewhat lagging for me, personally. For lovers of travel novels such as around the world in 80 days, where the focus is on the places and the obstacles they come into contact with, it would be much more palatable. I found that with the quick introduction and quick leaving of places meant I never really immersed in the wonder of some of the scenes, but, it did make me have to fill in the gaps, gave me creative freedom to picture the whimsy from my own eye. I just craved something more, the relationship between the main cast could have been better fleshed out or spaced to feel more authentic, I wanted to see more characters and fall in love with them either through the reactions they had to the world, or the world through their eyes.
As a few reviewers have already said, this is a very vibes-focused book, so if that’s something that a reader can enjoy, I’d recommend this more than I did for myself. I’m sure a chapter of this book with a cosy cup of tea before bed is just the perfect recipe for a good dream.
