Before We Were Trans: A New History of Gender by Kit Heyam
5.0
beautiful and informative ! such an important blend of histories and the emphasis on non-western communities was incredible, especially while looking through the lense of colonialism and its devastating impacts. i really appreciated reading the parts about spiritualism and akwaeke emezi’s freshwater. i just finished reading dear senthuran, and the author really seemed to take a lot of care in properly acknowledging the complexities of relating to experiences without misrepresenting them.
