The Country Will Bring Us No Peace by Matthieu Simard

3.0

This was a dreamlike, surreal and poetic read. To me, it read a bit similarly to both Starve Acre and Crossroads . I would say this was more of a sad, melancholic story that focused heavily on themes of grief, loss and small town communities fading away from memory.
It was very easy to read, the descriptions were gorgeous at times. I have this weird, surreal and empty feeling now I've finished it. The writing style fit perfectly for such a short story as this, but I can't help but feel a tiny bit like this read more like a chapter out of a book, rather than a completed novel.
