The second Tome outlines Kaneki's journey from starting to work at Anteiku until expressing his desire to learn to use his new ghoul powers to stop being helpless. In the meantime, he learns where human meat can be sourced for the ghouls that do not want to kill humans to survive. He also sees what happens to ghouls that get discovered by doves, the ghoul investigators - and receives his own mask that should help him stay undiscovered.
