Wow. I can't believe it's taken me this long to read this book. I loved it! It's a simple story, a romantic view of the past in a little bubble of Prince Edward Island. Anne is such a relatable character (especially young Anne), even now. She is a kindred spirit! I felt connected to all the characters, save the few near the end when she went to Queen's. They were all alive in my mind (and still are) and I felt I knew them as people.
I immensely enjoyed the rich descriptions of nature throughout the book. I mostly listened to the audiobook version, read by Shelly Frasier, on walks through a wooded area to work. I was transported into the story this way, seeing the green life around me and hearing about Anne's world. Listening to the story was grounding, it made me want to study the world with the intensity and beauty of L.M. Montgomery's writing.
I will be sure to continue with this series, I think I have to read them all now!
