I read this book as a kid and now with my own children. Both the three year old and the six year old listened to every page breathlessly. Got scared by Kato and his iron claw, and joyed with them in the land faraway.

The fun part about reading it as an adult is the other fantasy likenesses I saw. A red ”eye” in the tower, getting threwn in to a world where everyone knows you have to defeat evil EXCEPT YOURSELF?! Having a father figure sacrificing you for the greater good.
