The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata

5.0

5 bright shiny stars!!!

Listened to this book on audio. I thought for sure I was going to want to throw in the towel after I saw it was over 16 hours but I am so glad I gave it a chance and stuck with it! This was my first book by Mariana and I know it will not be my last!

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me was INCREDIBLE!!!! It was an extremely slow burn, and I mean the most barely there flicker ever! But I think that just added to the thrill and mounting expectation. By the end I was chomping at the bit!

Van was one of those amazing heroines who is intelligent, independent, unique and humorous. She knew who she was and who she wasn't. And a fan of sports and Aiden Graves was definitely who she wasn't. Aiden was a reserved, focused and unfriendly professional football player who didn't know what he had until it was gone. Or maybe he did but he kept it to himself. He wasn't exactly a ruthless a-hole but he certainly wasn't Mr. Personable either.

This duo, although forced together by unfortunate circumstances, truly tried everything in their power to "make it work". I loved that they respected each other the entire book, even when they wanted to kill each other. The feelings that grew slowly between these two was heart warming and made me giddy like child. Especially when little Leo entered the story! Take about a swoon and make me melt moment!

There were only a few aspects of the read I didn't enjoy, one of them being the continuous counting that Van did to herself in high stress or aggravating situations. But I got over it. There was a TON of internal dialogue due to the single POV of the story but I didn't mind it.

The ending of this book did me in. It was everything I wanted, hoped for and dreamed of the entire read. It was simply wonderful. Worth the slow development of the story and characters and worth the 16 hours of listening!
