“Breathe in. Count to five. Breathe out. Repeat.”
“Ready or not, Nessa, I’m coming for you.”
This book is dark and twisted; please check the trigger warnings before reading!
I liked the idea of the book, and I think that asylum romance is a really interesting concept.
Nessa seemed like an intriguing character, and I would have loved to learn more about her. There were some things and situations revealed about her past, and I think these helped with her character development and showed the reader who she was as a character and why she made the decisions she did.
I personally wasn’t a huge fan of Asher. There wasn’t anything wrong with him, but for some reason I didn’t like the decisions he ended up making, especially what he decided to do to himself just to see Nessa. I actually ended up liking “the creepy doctor” more than Asher.
There were some things revealed about the shared history between Nessa and Asher. I would have liked to learn more about their history together. Maybe those would have helped me to understand and like Asher more.
The pacing was fast, and there weren’t any dull moments. Personally, I feel like the ending was a bit too fast-paced and felt rushed. Also, the main characters escape the situation a bit too easily for my liking. Yes, they both (especially Nessa) went through hard times, but I personally would have preferred them to “struggle” a bit more towards the end.
Overall, a fast and interesting read with lots of triggers. I’m interested to see where the story goes next.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
