The Rot by Siri Pettersen
4.0
I took a long pause between Odin’s Child and reading this sequel, and also between reading this and reviewing it. I guess I wasn’t eager to see how these characters lived without each other and that a series I was hoping to love would fall flat.
I thought it would only bring me heartache to have them separated for so long, but individually they grew so much as characters and wow, I’m impressed with both of them. Rime has become a little bloodthirsty and ruthless but I am honestly rooting for him still. He had a lot to deal with, after seeing the love of his life whisked away to another world and all. Oh and the toppling of Ym’s religious and political basis, that didn’t help.
Hirka, in another world, also had a really interesting character arc in this sequel. She’s so much more complex and quite brilliant even tho there is a major cultural gap between Ym and Earth.
Also, I need more of Damayanti so I hope to see more of her in the next book because she is also cunning and I want to know more about her.
I really enjoyed this sequel and am once again excited for the last book of the trilogy. Hirka’s bloodline is revealed and now what is she going to do with it? Hopefully the right thing, because those lines have been blurring for both her AND Rime for too long.
