Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

5.0

Amazing. Literally finished it within a day and I’ve been in a slump recently so that’s even more outstanding.

The main character, Emira, is just so likeable, whilst being real and flawed. One of my favourite quotes was “Emira didn’t love doing anything, but she didn’t terribly mind doing anything either”. As a uni student who has no future dreams, it just hit home and I liked seeing her character arc as she grappled with this in tandem to the main plot. I also think it’s an amazing criticism of racism in the current world, especially seen in the cases of Kelley and Alix. There’s so much that I could say on that topic but I genuinely think you should just read the book because Kiley Reid articulates it incredibly.
