Star Wars, Vol. 1: Skywalker Strikes by Jason Aaron

4.0

Good fun Star Wars action. I hope that going forward this story doesn't lean too heavily on mirroring events from the movies. For example, I'm disappointed Luke and Vader had a confrontation so early on. It kind of cheapens their duel in ESB (kind of how Splinter of the Minds Eye did in the old Legends canon. At least Splinter was so bad you could pretend it didn't exist...). Also, I hope they don't fall into the trap of having the 3 main heroes save the universe every few months. Part of the texture of the movies is that the heroes felt like they were one part of the larger Rebel Alliance. Other characters, sometimes unnamed or even not featured on screen, got their chance to contribute to the cause. For example, the Rebel pilot that destroyed the Executor in ROTJ. In the poorer Legends stories Han, Luke, and Leia basically do everything themselves, including finding the location for the next Rebel Base or stealing the plans for the Empires next superweapon. I want to see new stories, not fill in the gaps between ANH and ESB to show how everything happened. For example, I'm curious to see how this revelation about Han Solo plays out.
