yet again, this book broke me. an amazing narrative on women and drug/alcohol abuse in the 1940s-1960s. the characters had strong arcs that were subtle throughout the writing. i really enjoyed how the different sections were narrated differently even though it was written from 3rd person. it was a beautiful mix between The Bell Jar and Sex and the City, that was enjoyable yet depressing. Definitely the type of book I would read for fun, then choose to read again bc it had a profound impact on my look at life. character opinions: hated neely at the end; i’m literally in love with Lyon but i hated him so so so much at the end; Anne was so sweet i wanted to protect her so bad; Jennifer’s story was just depressing. overall, an incredible tale and i understand why it has stood over 50 years!!
