This book was fine. It centers on Lauren who comes back home from her friend’s bachelorette party to discover her husband at home. Problem is that before the party, she was single. Now not only does she have a husband, but according to her phone and photos, she’s had him for awhile. Then he goes up to the attic to change a lightbulb and he is never to be seen again, but down the attic stairs comes a new husband. Lauren realizes she has a magic attic that keeps providing her a new husband, a new life every time one goes up into the attic. There were light moments that were funny, some that had potential to be more. I didn’t like Lauren too much. She seemed selfish - not so selfish that she didn’t care at all (there is one point she changes husbands when she realizes the negative impact on someone close to her), but she thinks mostly about herself. And that would be fine if she went on more of a journey of self discovery - it’s not like she really knew these husbands after all. Why might the attic have chosen that moment? What did she ultimately want in life? How does she grow and change as a person? There’s not a whole lot of that. Just bumbling from one husband to another for the most part. It was fine, but it had the potential to be so much more and that was disappointing.
