Saw a review that said this was better than Gone Girl and I’m wondering if we read the same book. This book is so slow, repetitive, and just plain boring! In the end there’s no jaw dropping twist, just a lot of domestic abuse. It felt like I was reading a VERY depressing news article instead of a psychological thriller. I don’t understand why this book got popular, it’s trash. why did Rachel write an apology to Scott?? He abused her and he just.. gets away with it? And the way Rachel gets away from Tom was not realistic. I much prefer a thriller where there is a mastermind behind everything, rather than a domestic abuser who commits murder in the heat of the moment for no good reason. At the bare minimum I’ll take an interesting main character. But this book had neither.
Graphic: Alcoholism, Domestic abuse, Infidelity, Toxic relationship, and Violence
Moderate: Child death and Murder
