This was never a series I thought I would pick up, but with KU, I thought, why not?
This book begins almost immediately after the first one ends, and the first half of this book is challenging to get through. There are detailed scenes of abuse involving situations of sex trafficking. We follow a dual POV of Addie and Zade as they try to get through this trauma and get back to each other. At the halfway point, they are finally reunited and spend the second half getting revenge for what happened, fighting sex trafficking rings, all while Addie is trying to pick up the pieces and move on from the trauma she went through.

Even though the plot thickened and so many things were going on, it didn't take away from the spice; there was still a good amount of it. There is the addition of Sibby getting a more prominent character, and in doing so, we get to see what an exciting dynamic they all create in one environment. The crime is still here in abundance, as is the humor. Addie's character is constantly conflicted on if Zade entering her life caused all this danger or if it would have happened anyway. The back and forth is a prominent theme of the book, culminating in her realization that it doesn't matter. She has taken her situation into her own hands, played the cards she was dealt, and, in my opinion, took control of what her life will be moving forward. The last page, with the note from Rio, hit me where it hurt.

At the end of the book, I was honestly sad to see the end of their story, and I would love to see if the author will write anything else for them in the future. This book IS NOT for everyone; if you cannot handle it, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
