What Makes Girls Sick and Tired by Lucile de Pesloüan

4.0

4.5 --> I wish we could do half stars because this book was well done, but there were just a couple things keeping it from a 5 star rating. There is an author's note on the very back copyright page that I almost missed. It is an important author's note considering it speaks about the author & illustrator's privilege so I wish it was put at the beginning of the book where readers are more likely to see it. Moreover, I also wish that the author's note said more than "we're privileged white women," and unpacked their privilege just a bit further. All of this being said though, I do think that the author did a good job at capturing some of the vast differences in experience of women. I also appreciated how the author cited where certain statistics were from (geographically speaking). This made it more clear that the stats being used were not true for all women worldwide, but certainly true for the women in that geographical area.

Lastly, the book made me feel crummy. But I think that was the point. Towards the end, I felt validated, but also had to take the time to feel crummy about the realities women face. It also gave me the chance to feel thankful for the privilege I do have.
