Wicked Abyss by Kresley Cole

I’m such a sucker for Beauty and the Beast retellings. Make it even halfway decent, and I’m going to love it, and we all know Kresley Cole does FAR better than “halfway decent”

We met Sian a few books back, and I was immediately intrigued by his curse (and connection to past books! I love that the Dacian spin-off characters are coming into play some). Lila’s connection to Rune’s story was interesting too. I was curious how that would play out with Rune’s vow to wipe out her entire family, but I really shouldn’t have doubted…this series is first and foremost a romance!

Sian and Lila’s rocky start was perfect. I loved how much they despised each other and how well they foiled the other’s attempts at trickery or malice. When the attraction really started to kick in, it was a complete flip from hatred to love but instead a slide into acceptance, which I appreciated.

Lila specifically was such a wonderful character. She was clever and strong despite her mortality and practically unstoppable once her immortality kicked in. I hope we get to see more of her in future books!
