I have tried reading this book 2 or 3 times now and I can never get past the first few chapters. Maybe my brain is mush, maybe I'm the real phony, but jfc this is the most insufferable main character ever written. I truly could not care less about this sad little rich boy. I understand this book was quite provocative when it came out and is undeniably intrinsic to the American Literary Canon...but I can't stand it.
