A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers

5.0

A lovely, philosophical novel about a tea-monk named Dex and Mosscap, a self-aware robot descended from those who isolated themselves from humanity centuries earlier. Dex meets Mosscap after they're driven to the wilderness by a sense of profound discontent about their life in the City, in spite of having meaningful work and a community that loves them. Through Dex's and Mosscap's interactions we explore themes of purpose, productivity, consciousness and interdependence, and it's hopeful and moving. Becky Chambers is great at world-building and describing scenery, and she hits the exact right amount of description in this relatively minimalist narrative.
