The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang
4.5
I haven't underestimated a book before reading it as much as I have with Sword of Kaigen. From the cover art and the name, I expected a meathead self insert fantasy for teenage boys to make use of their love towards magic and swords and the japanese aesthetic. Since then, I have been virtually slapped continuously in the face by my goddess Maya Wang. This is a beautiful piece of feminist literature that really goes deep into motherhood, patriarchy and that too with real empathy towards men. Great, great book. I loved it a lot.
