As a beginner typographer, this book is an amazing resource! The first 20 pages feature key definitions and terminology in a clear, concise, and visually appealing manner. After that the book is split up into sections focusing on a particular style of type design.
Each Typeface gets its own two page spread. Each spread features all the standard glyphs in the right hand corner. The center of the page features a word blown up across the entire spread with key features of the typeface being highlighted. The bottom right features a description on how and where the face tends to be used and what it is good for. It also features a direct comparison to a similar typeface so you can clearly see the different design choices.
This book is good for finding a font you may want to use for a project, but it really shines when trying to design your own font or typeface. Being able to see the design choices of other designers in such a clear and concise format is a great inspiration for deciding what elements you may want to adopt for yourself and what things you should consider regarding the construction of various glyphs.
