Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton

5.0

This was a beautifully written book that gave a glimpse into life in Cuba that no one that isn't Cuban or Cuban-American could ever pull off. The story was riveting even as it switched from present day to 1959. I found myself equally engrossed in both time-frames. The descriptions were so vivid. Reading about the food and the sea air made me wish for a chance to visit Cuba - but the very real stories of the effects of the war and politics left my stomach in knots. One day I would like to visit. I speak Spanish fluently and want to see Havana, but I am under no illusions before or after reading this book.

I truly loved the romance in this book. So real. Nothing elaborate or exaggerated, just real. I also loved the history and the settings. I really felt the descriptions were amazing. I felt like I was there.

I cannot wait to read the next book!
