This novella has potential. It’s about a species of intelligent powerful anthropomorphic cats who are tasked with finding a cure for a deadly virus that has afflicted the felines on their planet, so they go to Earth to find strong healthy felines to crossbreed with . The story was captivating enough to read cover to cover. But the writing is stilted and reads like a scientist who was trying to write a novel about the current events in the world (I.e. the COVID-19 pandemic but in the perspective of anthropomorphic cats) with a Shakespearean twist. You get 300+ pages worth of backstory, worldbuilding and plot in 60 pages so everything is told to you and there is no leaving anything to the imagination or deep exploration of certain things. I would understand this if it was meant to be end in 60 sweet pages, but this is part of a larger series with two other books—surely this book could’ve been longer. Why did Zahra change his mission ? Who are the other evil life forms that influenced Hecate and what is their relationship to the other worlds and this virus? Why aren’t the humans more…inquisitive about Donovan’s identity? Lol
