House of Secrets by Chris Columbus, Ned Vizzini
3.0
Sigh.
I had reservations about reading House of Secrets in the first place. The whole very rich family fallen on hard times because of malpractice on the father's part just didn't really appeal too much. Thankfully, that wasn't too large a part of the story, but the rest was almost, dare I say, boring.
It's too long for one. It's not that I mind long books. However, there are books where 600 pages fly by and books were 400 pages drag by. House of Secrets is much more of the latter variety sadly. It easily could've been condensed by a hundred pages and made a more interesting and suspenseful read.
I also wasn't a fan of the instaromance between some of the characters that really served no point and there were times I felt the book was a bit unnecessarily vulgar.
I will continue with the series to see what happens, but at this point, I wouldn't recommend. It's passable, but there is nothing unique or terribly interesting about it.
